My Quest for the Perfect Dry Shampoo - Batiste

**All products mentioned were purchased by me. I'm not affiliated with any companies mentioned.**

I woke up late this morning and my hair was completely wrecked. It was passed the 2 day wash point, and I wasn't looking too hot. The usual oilies had started to set in and there wasn't time for a full on hair wash and dry. I have to admit, this isn't the first time that I've been in a situation like this. I'm sure in the past, I would have panicked and had to either call in late or take the day off to salvage my pride. However, thanks to my trusty stash of Batiste Dry Shampoo, I was able to remedy my dilemma. In less than a minute, I had hair that I was not embarrassed to leave the house with.

I'm no stranger to dry shampoo. My first foray into the product was back in 2007 with Ojon's RubOut Dry Shampoo. That product actually worked quite well outside of being a little spendy at over $20 a can. Also, there was an issue at times with some of the cans clogging. The first can I had was great. No issues with clogging. Second can, I was hardly able to use any as the sprayer was bad from the get go. For the cost of the product and the unreliability of the sprayer, I gave up on it after the trouble with my second can.

I decided to look for something more affordable. I came across some reviews for Batiste and was attracted by the more affordable price tag. It was harder to come by back in 2008/2009 and I had to order it from Sally's Beauty Supply. This was before the drugstore brands started popping up everywhere. I honestly was not that thrilled with Batiste initially. I had tried their Original Green and the Blush Versions. The Original Green scent from back then was less than desirable. I've heard it be compared to the scent of a public restroom and I don't think it was all that far off. The Blush version was not much better. Almost smelled like an air freshener on top of that awful base scent of public restroom. The product actually worked quite well, but unfortunately I couldn't get past the smell. I pretty much gave up at that point, reserved to believe that a good dry shampoo was another one of those mythical unicorns of the beauty world.

It wasn't until dry shampoos started popping up at the drugstore that I decided to venture back into the dry shampoo arena. Now it seems like every brand out there has their own version. There are a ton to choose from. I tried out quite a few of the drugstore brands and was sadly disappointed by a lot of them. I went through two cans of the Suave Professionals version when that first came out. That was nice at first. Got rid of the oilies and gave my hair body. But by the time I was working on my second can, I realized it left me with a gritty, sandy feeling on my scalp when I used it. My hair also felt super coated with it. Next up, was the Tresemme one for oily hair (they have two versions, the other is for dry curly hair I believe). That one didn't do a thing for me. It left my hair feeling wet which did nothing to eliminate the oilies. I tossed the can halfway through. A travel can of Pssst that I got in a monthly sample box was next. Didn't impress me at all. Left my hair smelling stale and really didn't make my hair look fresh at all.

Somewhere in the middle of my saga with drugstore brand dry shampoo I happened upon another high end brand when I purchased one of those Allure Beauty boxes. It was Oscar Blandi's Pronto Dry Shampoo. It had a really nice lemon scent to it, but overall the formula was just okay really. At times I felt that it left my hair with that overly wet look similar to the Tresemme and if it didn't make it wet, it left my hair on the rather flat side. Overall, not impressed.

Somewhere along the line I had heard someone on Youtube (I forget who at this point) mention a dry shampoo made specifically for Brunettes. It was supposed to eliminate the white cast that sometimes afflicts those of use that have darker hair. It was from Batiste. Intrigued, I tracked down a can at a local grocery store and decided to give it a whirl. I was a bit apprehensive at first given my prior experience with Batiste, but I gave it a try and was blown away but how well it worked. It instantly eliminated any oiliness and gave my hair a ton of lift and body. And the smell, I'm a bit obsessed by this version I must say. I don't know how to describe it other than to say that it smells fresh. At times I think maybe it smells kind of like a powdery coconut, but maybe that's just me. And this version really cuts down on the white cast, in fact there is hardly any cast at all. Overall, I was really impressed (finally?!) and have been back to using Batiste ever since I tried that can.

Batiste has really come a long way since those 2008/2009 versions. It seems the cans that have a white cap are a newer formula I think. I retried the original one and was pleasantly surprised. I actually like the scent of it now, so unless my sense of smell has changed, I'd say they improved the product. They have a lot more scents out now as well. Instead of just the Original, Blush, and Tropical scents, there are Refresh, Wild, Paisley, and Cheeky Cherry. Refresh is a bit powdery smelling, Wild smells like a musky sexy perfume, Paisley smells a bit Patchouli-ish, and Cheeky Cherry smells sweet and fruity. There is also a special version formulated for Blondes. Ulta carries them all. Here is my current stash:

Too Faced Boudoir Eyes Palette - Swatches and Picture

**All products mentioned were purchased by me. I'm not affiliated with any companies mentioned.**

Well, I finally caved and bought the Too Faced Boudoir Eyes Palette this week. I've passed this palette a number of times in Ulta and always was debating it but decided to pass. Since nothing new has come out recently that I've been crazy for and since the weather will be turning cooler soon (which means my skin will be getting cooler toned again), I finally decided to spring for this.

It really is a gorgeous cool toned palette. There are 3 matte shades (In the Buff, Fuzzy Handcuffs, and Garter Belt). The rest are either shimmery or glittery. My favorite shades are Sugar Walls, Voulez Vous, Satin Sheets, and French Tickler. I can think of a lot of possible combos using this palette and can't wait to give it a spin.

Some swatches are below. Admittedly, I've taken better swatches. These were all swatched on bare skin and it's a bit cloudy out today so I'm not getting the natural lighting as well as I usually can for photos. I figured I'd share these anyway though. They are in the same order as in the palette.

From left to right, top to bottom: In the Buff, Fuzzy Handcuffs, Voulez Vous, Satin Sheets, Sugar Walls, Garter Belt, Birthday Suit, Lap Dance, and French Tickler.

I think I'll be getting a lot of use out of this palette as the weather starts to get cooler. The three shades on the right of the palette will work well to get a nice cool toned smoky look. Have you picked up this palette or not? Let me know your thoughts.

Life is Good Coffees - Banana Bread Bliss and S'more to Love - Review

**All products mentioned were purchased by me. I'm not affiliated with any companies mentioned.**

I have to rave about these coffees that I recently picked up from Target. These are from the brand Life is Good. Their line currently has 5 varieties of coffee to choose from. Three of these are normal coffee in a Light, Medium, or Dark Roast. I have not tried these yet because the two flavored coffees are what really caught my eye on the store. These are called Banana Bread Bliss and S'more to Love. How can you resist the temptation of that, really? Hmm, do I pick up the normal coffee or one of these intriguing flavors instead? It was an easy decision for me.

I actually picked up the Banana Bread Bliss one first as the Target I was in when I discovered these was all out of the S'more one. I didn't even know it existed until after trying the Banana Bread Bliss one and being blown away, I googled the brand online to see what other offerings they had. When I saw the S'more one I made a mental note and the next time through Target, I grabbed a bag of it as well.

So, how are these flavors really? I think these are really yummy without that usual fakeness that flavored coffees can sometimes have. The banana bread bliss has a wonderful aroma of fresh baked banana bread. It's almost as if you are eating a slice of banana bread while having your coffee. The S'more to Love flavor is amazing as well. You can smell the marshmallow, chocolate, and graham crackers and the coffee has a richness to it that complements these flavors nicely. You can actually taste S'mores when you are drinking this coffee. It's amazing. I will definitely be rebuying these again as I don't think I'd want to be without them.

I've been brewing them using my personal K cup brewer in our Keurig. I fill the personal K cup basket to the top so I can get maximum flavor. I add milk but do not add sweetener. These coffees have enough flavor on their own, there is no need to add sweetener. I seldom will add sweetener to any of my coffees or teas though so keep that in mind as you may need to customize what you add to your liking.

Let me know if you've picked up either of these and what your thoughts are on them.

Bare Minerals Ready 8.0 in The Power Neutrals - Swatches and Pictures

**All products mentioned were purchased by me. I'm not affiliated with any companies mentioned.**

Long time - no blog post. I've just been incredibly busy and distracted this summer, but am trying to hopefully refocus on my blog for fall. Looking forward to the weather getting cooler, the leaves turning, and all things pumpkin popping up in stores. Fall is my favorite season of the year.

Anyways, I wanted to share a recent purchase with you. I picked up the Bare Minerals Ready 8.0 Pallette in the Power Neutrals. I was kind of on the fence when this first launched on QVC and decided to pass. When I saw it in Ulta and was able to swatch it in person, I changed my mind. First, feast your eyes on these shadows.

Talk about a neutral shadow lover's dream. This is the first 8.0 palette I think where the vast majority of shadows in it are either matte or satin. There is only one shade in the palette that qualifies as metallic or frosty which is a bit different than most of the other Ready 8.0 palettes that have come out. So if you are not into the usual metallic finishes, then this might be the pallete for you. The names of the shadows are as follows:

Top Row - Boss Lady, Moneymaker, Schmooze, Boardroom
Second Row - Exec, Payday, Magnate, Get Ahead

This is definitely, as suggested by the shade names, a work appropriate palette of colors.

I decided to take swatches on bare skin, using no primer just to show you how incredibly pigmented the ready shadows can be. The metallic shadows in the palette are the most creamy, but the matte shades are by no means chalky.

First row of shades:

This row is my favorite. I think these shades make an excellent quad on their own. I can see wearing Schmooze on the lid with Moneymaker in the crease and Boardroom in the outer V and to line. Boss Lady would make a great highlight as well. Both Moneymaker and Boardroom are matte shades. Boss Lady has more of a satin finish and Schmooze is a metallic.

On to the second row:

This row does not blow me away as much as the first row. Exec is more of a satin finish while the other three shades are mattes. All of these shades do have great pigmentation. I think I would mainly pair them with shades from the top row to mix things up as I do not think I could create a good look using these four shades alone.

All in all - I'm happy with the palette and would recommend it if you are looking for some matte neutral shades with great pigmentation. Let me know your thoughts if you've picked up the palette and how you are using those bottom row shades.
